Healing Arts Atlanta is a celebration of arts and health by Jameel Arts & Health Lab and Thriving Together Atlanta partner Performance Hypothesis. In October, the Thriving Together Atlanta team took part in two events:
- Policymaker Event: Over a dozen Georgia elected officials and 75 attendees joined Healing Arts Atlanta on a Monday morning to hear from State Representative Kim Schofield and her resolution for a statewide Arts and Health Commission. This event advanced the vision of leveraging the arts to address racism as a public health crisis by featuring arts & health experts (Performance Hypothesis, Jill Sonke), leaders from the Historic Ebenezer Church (Rev. Bronson Elliott Woods), as well as live performances from the Alliance Theatre and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra musicians. Finally, Camille Love presented the City of Atlanta’s Proclamation of Healing Arts Atlanta, which celebrates the efforts of Thriving Together Atlanta and the city’s rich history of arts and health.
- World Mental Health Day at CDC Museum: the David J. Sencer CDC Museum hosted a special reception celebrating World Mental Health Day and its current exhibition: Stand & Witness; Time in the Art of COVID-19! Over 80 attendees came together to celebrate the role of the arts in addressing mental health with event partners Healing Arts Atlanta and Thriving Together Atlanta. The event featured several speakers, including Adria Kitchens, who spoke about the important work of Equitable Dinners with Thriving Together Atlanta as well as Nils Fietje, from the World Health Organization, Europe Office.
